Why
support the Western Cape Network?
By supporting
the work of the WCNVAW
you will facilitate and enable the strengthening of the work
in eradicating violence against women in a
systematic
manner that includes the following principles:
- working
in an
integrated
way:
the purpose of the network is to facilitate collaborative
activities whereby members share information and resources
thus producing
greater results
than individual organisations
could produce alone;
avoiding
duplication
of scarce resources and services and
reducing
isolation and competition.
- reach
the disadvantaged:
the Network strengthens the work of organisations of lesser
capacity and/or that are geographically isolated.
- consultation
with local organizations and people:
the network promotes a
participatory
approach and enables members to view priorities in terms of
the overall needs of the sector. Structures are in place to
ensure the way in which the WCNVAW operates includes input
from urban and rural organisations – for example, monthly
regional meetings keep parties informed, while the regional
representative elected onto the Provincial Management
Committee can ensure input into strategic planning includes
the needs of both sectors.
- complete
work on behalf of member organisations that as direct
service providers do not have the capacity to undertake
- for example: advocacy work, campaign management and
awareness raising activities, submission of grassroots
experience and trends to be considered in the promulgation
of legislation. This was successfully done in the drafting
of the Domestic Violence Act; the Sexual Offences Bill and
the Fire Arms Control Bill.
